May no.9, also known simply as May, is a recurring character within the Buzzutsu Kaisen series. Taken from her family at birth, she is the product of experimentation aimed at producing a cursed speech user.
Appearance
May is a young woman of below-average height with a lean physique. She has dark brown eyes hidden behind reflective glasses and a bandana covering her mouth. She also sports a messy pixie cut.
Personality
Having grown up in a lab for most of her life, May is often out of touch with human customs and struggles to empathize with others.
Abilities and Powers
Buzzutsu
May possesses the very powerful Cursed Speech technique, which infuses her speech with cursed energy to dish out massive damage. Bizarrely, her cursed speech is limited to calling people a Jhit. It is unknown whether this limitation is self-imposed or a side effect of the experimentation process. Regardless of the cause, being called a Jhit by May results in almost immediate bodily implosion.
Like any user of cursed speech, the technique is very taxing so May can only call someone a Jhit so many times before her voice gives out. To avoid using her cursed speech when she doesn’t intend to, May limits her everyday vocabulary to phrases such as “Pluh,” “Cuh,” “Splendiferous,” “My dad retired,” “Erm, what the sigma?!” “Prosperous,” “Shlawg,” “Pookie,” “Y e a h,” and many other chronically online terms.
