Arc 0: Original Sin

Spirit War

In the beginning, Aeos created Heaven, also known as the Spirit World, and eternal spirits to dwell within it. These spirits created cities and civilizations, but after eons of existence, many became aimless and without form. It was then that Aeos began his second creation: the earth and the human race. Humans were spirits, or souls, confined to mortal bodies. These souls constantly leaked cursed energy, accelerated by the presence of negative emotions. Upon death, a human's soul ascended to Heaven. Some human souls were strong enough to perceive other spirits and to manipulate cursed energy. Only about 1 in 10 million humans is born with this innate technique. Despite their mortal struggle, humans flourished on the face of the earth. Spirits took great satisfaction in observing the human way of life.

However, Sin, the strongest of the spirits, was jealous of the humans. He gathered an army of spirits and tore through the veil which separated the spirit and mortal planes. The humans stood no chance against Sin, as they cannot naturally perceive spirits. Sin conquered the humans and ruled over them. No spirit dared to oppose Sin, save for seven: Vael, Kath, Navi, Tenet, Esma, Hoph, and Fide. These spirits mourned for the humans and asked Aeos for power so that they might oppose Sin. Aeos bestowed upon each of them one of his heavenly virtues: patience to Vael, chastity to Kath, diligence to Navi, temperance to Tenet, kindness to Esma, humility to Hoph, and charity to Fide. The seven virtues led the human armies in rebellion against Sin and his spirits. The ensuing conflict, known as the Spirit War, nearly decimated the entire planet. In a final show of strength, Sin nearly killed all seven virtues. But before Sin could destroy the virtues, they shred their forms and possessed the body of a powerful human warrior named Raphael. Raphael wielded the might of the virtues and destroyed Sin, fracturing him into seven spirits. He sealed each of these spirits into seven cursed artifacts and hid them across the earth.

Aeos was deeply saddened by the destruction of his creation, and divided the spirit and mortal worlds so that cursed energy could no longer traverse the two. Only human souls were allowed to pass through the divide. The remaining humans on the earth formed twelve tribes: Olobuku, Meiyo, Isutita, Libertate, Prostates, Skjordr, Emunah, Mabadi, Comaperismo, Shantih, Zunzhong, and Nentlacatl. Raphael belonged to the Olobukun tribe, and he taught his people how to defeat curses in preparation their return. When Raphael passed, his children inherited his virtuous energy, and so the line of virtue continued. After many years free from spirits, only the Olobukun tribe still believed in them. As humans once again flourished and their numbers grew, more cursed energy was leaked into the earth. This energy gave birth to spirits who hated humanity for their being trapped on the earth: cursed spirits. The appearance of sorcerers and spirits is so rare that to this day almost all humans live blissfully unaware of their existence. However, the explosion in population growth over the last few centuries has necessitated the creation of organizations to combat the curse threat.

Children of Eden

The Children of Eden, also known as the Sinners, the Sindicate, or simply the Children, served Sin during his time on the earth. Upon Sin's defeat, the Children of Eden were exiled from human society, but secretly plotted to free Sin from his bondage by combining all seven sins in a single vessel. Over the past several thousand years, they have fought against the Olobukuns to possess six of the seven sin artifacts. By consuming the sin artifacts, a chosen member of the Children, known as the emissary, is able to act as a vessel for the sins. Each emissary is fed to their successor in order to pass on the sins.

In 1976, Crina Ciosici, a member of the Children, chose to flee for the sake of her unborn son, Stefan. In 1981, the emissary discovered Crina's whereabouts and executed her and her entire family as punishment. Unbeknownst to the emissary, young Stefan survived due to his latent cursed energy healing. He was found by the Buzzutsu Council to be protected from the Children. He later assumed a prominent position within Buzzutsu Academy due to his powerful technique.

The Children's search for a perfect vessel ended in 2015 when Eric Steiner, age 11, emerged with a cursed technique. The cult began preparations to recover the Artifact of Envy and resurrect Sin. Before they could accomplish this, the Olobukun and Buzzutsu sorcerers raided the Children's underground lair and slaughtered its members. The emissary, fearing for her life and the liberation of the sins, fled from the battle. After the air cleared, Stefan found a barely alive Eric clutching the corpses of his brother, Luke, and sister, Stephanie. In that moment, Stefan saw the same frightened boy he once was when the cult took his family from him. The Olobukun sorcerers approached Eric with raised weapons, but Stefan ordered them to stand down. The Olobukuns protested, insisting that the chosen vessel for Sin could not be left alive. Unwilling to allow Eric to die, Stefan killed the remaining members of the Olobukun tribe. Stefan chose to guide the boy towards a better path, enrolling him in Buzzutsu Academy. He adopted Eric, who lived with him until he was old enough to inherit his parent's house. Stefan told Eric that it was the Sindicate who killed his parents, and that they had fought valiantly to protect him.

Artifact of Envy

Deeply troubled by the deaths of his family, Eric recreated his siblings as benevolent spirits. As much as he tried, he was unable to recreate his parents in a way which pleased him. To reconnect with his parents, Eric often studied their old possessions. At age 20, Eric discovered a secret message within his father's writings. This prompted him to search the house thoroughly, and he discovered a study hidden beneath the house's foundation. He learned the truth about his parents' involvement in the Sindicate, their deaths, and his destiny as the vessel of Sin. Additionally, he discovered the Artifact of Envy in the study. The journal of Eric's father revealed that he was hesitant to sacrifice his oldest son and hid the fact that he had already claimed the final artifact of sin.

Eric returned to the scene of the Sindicate headquarters, only to find Stefan there waiting for him. Stefan confirms Eric's suspicions about his parents and attempts to console him, but Eric cannot help but feel betrayed. One day, while Eric was with Luke, Stephanie, Grant, and Trenton at the UTC mall, he momentarily separated from the group. With the Artifact of Envy in his possession, Eric contemplated whether he ought to consume its power. He could hear whatever it contained calling out to him, begging to be opened. It was then that Eric decided what had to be done. He called out to his brother and sister and entrusted them with the truth of his parents and the betrayal of Stefan. Luke was hesitant, but they agreed to join him on his quest for justice. With that, he consumed the Artifact of Envy and became the vessel for Envy.

Arc I: Son of Envy

UTC Massacre

With Envy's power, Eric unleashes his powerful “Brain Rot” technique, which corrupts Grant, Steph, and Luke. Eric is able to control those under the influence of "Brain Rot," though only if they survive the process. Trenton instinctively activates Midnight Steel and survives the technique, while everyone else in the mall is killed. Mr. C and Hannah find Trenton in the aftermath and remark on his exceptional potential.

Funeral

Trenton is recruited at the funeral for victims after The Incident. It is revealed that there may have been more to the Steiners than Eric had let on. Mr. C comes up to Trenton and takes him to the academy.

Gang vs Devious Lick Curse

Devious lick eats children in a school.

Trenton, Daniel, and Rhianan are dispatched to exorcize the Devious Lick curse plaguing an elementary school. By working together and combining their strengths, they are able to defeat it. Trenton has some PTSD. Perhaps Rhianan gets frustrated with Daniel and Trenton in this chapter.

Devious lick is only vulnerable from the inside. Daniel uses squid constructs. Trenton uses bronze medal form. Rhianan tries to lodge her bookunai in the curse, but it's skin is resistant. The curse catches one and eats it, revealing the location of its soul to Rhianan. Trenton enters the curse to kill it from within. He rescues the kids while Daniel fights the curse from the outside.

Back at Buzzutsu Academy

The trio returns to Buzzutsu Academy and we are introduced to several other characters. I think we need to spend a little more time at the academy to get to know all our characters. So we do some moping about for maybe a month or so. Trenton has a nightmare about his friends, and wakes up in a cold sweat. His guilt drives him to leave the academy to pursue Eric, but he is stopped by Osman, who takes him to the underground racing ring. Osman shares why he feels the need to always be moving (backstory elements), but encourages Trenton that he is different and needs to stay at the academy instead of running away from his problems. Trenton argues that he is not running away, but comes to realize that he is in fact taking the easy way out (more than likely getting killed by curses) and must become stronger to defeat Eric. He sneaks back into the academy and falls asleep. Perhaps it is conveyed in some way that Mr. C knew Trenton snuck out. Perhaps it is hinted very subtly that Diligence is speaking through Osman at this moment. Perhaps Trenton shares a small moment with Isabella.

Some events: Cass’ forge. Coach oversees sparring. Mr. C helps with cursed techniques. Mrs. Goddard is the librarian. Mrs. Ayling just hangs around. Dr. Mchofrey. Trenton has a nightmare and wakes up. Trenton talks to Osman and they bond. Osman leaves the academy, but Trenton decides to stay. Alternatively, Trenton spars with Liam. Trenton could also do this when he gets back from his drive with Osman.

The Impact

During this time we cut away and see Alex defeat the vessel of sin on Mt. Kilimanjaro. Hundreds of curses attack as the Vessel confronts Alex. Alex defeats the Vessel and seals six sins within himself.

COVID Curse

Then, we cut back to the academy. Danny’s surveillance has detected something big. Mr. C calls an assembly and tells the academy that the sorcerer's ancient enemy, Sin, has reawoken. The last seal has reportedly been broken in Mount Kilimanjaro, so the stakes are higher than ever. The administration has decided that all of the sorcerers will go to defeat Sin in a final showdown. Daniel is told he will be staying behind to defend the academy, but doesn’t mind much because he’ll be able to continue his drawings. Trenton is disappointed to hear he will be staying behind because he wants to grow stronger by facing tougher curses. Rhianan rubs this fact in his face, but is shocked to hear that she will also be staying behind. She believes she is above this task and deserves to be out fighting curses. She is quite annoyed. We do some character development here and explore the main trio’s motivations and desires. They do some loafing about and Rhianan eventually get bored of guarding the vault. So she creates this elaborate contraption that launches her bookunai at anyone who enters. Then the three of them go loaf about elsewhere. Luke sets off the trap when he steals the COVID curse; this gives Rhianan plot importance because she is able to read Luke's thoughts and determine his location. Due to him being a very complex and evolved cursed spirit, his mind is almost indistinguishable from a sorcerer's. Trenton thinks he sees Luke but figures he must be hallucinating. Eventually, Trenton notices that the door to the vault is open. The covid curse is missing.

Eric is presumed dead although Trenton suspects/has a hunch that Eric is still alive but he’s not sure nor does he tell anyone about this. Rhianan has difficulty reading Luke for some time due to the telepathic struggle of reading his mind. Rhianan eventually learns Luke’s identity and that Eric, Stephanie, and Grant are alive but doesn’t reveal this to the academy as they make a deal. Rhianan won’t tell about their identities (as Eric commands), and in turn Luke will keep their link hush hush and cooperate.

The Impact Part 2

Anyhow, we cut back to the battle with Sin. All of the sorcerers surround Sin and get handily defeated by him, except Mr. C. Mr. C is like, yo, Sin, why are you evil? And Sin is like, I'm not Sin dummy, my name is Raphael. Then he calms Raphael down and knocks him out or something.

Teachers Return

Probably opens with Mrs. Goddard being upset that the trio fumbled the bag (“You did WHAT?” and Mr. C thinking it's kind of funny. Mr. C says something cheeky like, “I guess you’ll just have to go get it back then.” The other teachers think this is gross negligence, but do not oppose Mr. C. Despite being dormant, the covid curse still possesses a distinct cursed energy signature, and the trio is tasked with tracking it down and retrieving it. They prepare (weapons, advice, who knows?) and set out north on their journey. Trenton thinks he sees Luke so he's invested and Daniel is happy to do whatever!

Joey Pepper and Chicken Man

Rhianan communicates with Luke telepathically, but Luke is initially distrusting of Rhianan and feeds her false information. Jhonny is at a warehouse trying to convince other cursed spirits to join Eric’s cause. Luke leads students to Joey Pepper and Chicken Man where they fight. Drew Scott is there too but he portals out to the Eaze. Portal captures everybody except trio.

Jhonny Joins

Jhonny, disguised as a human sorcerer, pretends to have been a captive of Joey and asks if he can join our trio for protection. Jhonny joins them on their hunt for the Covid Curse or goes back to the Academy to gather info by pretending to be helpless.

Alex at the Academy

It is revealed that Buzzutsu Academy has deep ties to the American government. Dr. Mrchofrey is the head of a department which studies cursed beings. He wants to experiment on Alex, but Mr. C does not allow him to. Alex is kept isolated in a remote government facility.

Rhianan Confronts Luke

Rhianan is furious at Luke for trying to get our trio killed. She probes the depths of his brain and discovers that he is a cursed spirit. She reveals this fact to Luke and he stops communicating with her.

Luke Confronts Eric

Luke confronts Eric. Eric confirms Rhianan’s hypothesis, so Luke has a mental breakdown and sends the COVID curse to the trio. Curse gets intercepted (Jhonny?) and heads to the Auction. Eric kills/lobotomizes Luke for what he did, tells Stephanie that Rhianan did it.

Auctioneer

Auctioneer (Andrew) has the COVID curse. In order to enter the Auction the gang is dressed in formal attire and has to somehow gain COVID curse without fighting due to binding vow.

COVID Curse Fight

Fight against COVID with remaining students plus Mr. C. Mr C fights COVID curse and gets infected and physically wastes away after the fight to prevent Liam from unleashing Ragnarok. After they win the fight, our heroes return to the Academy only to find the students who were pulled into The Eaze have returned.

The Eaze Part 1

This is a flashback. Julia, Danny, Marc, Cameron, and Vivvy were sucked into The Eaze. They find crucial information to beat Eric and then find their way out, but Julia gets injured. She can only be healed by something in The Eaze, so Danny stays behind with her. The rest of the group leave without them.

Versus Steiner

Big battle. COVID curse is destroyed so Eric gets mad and lashes out by creating a curse army. Stephanie and Rhianan fight, Rhianan tells her she didn’t kill Luke but that Eric did. Stephanie changes sides. Grant kills Pedro during the fight, Daniel goes beast mode but is still bested by Grant. Trenton swoops in. Eric realizes Stephanie turned and doesn't want Grant to turn too, so he opens his domain… Trenton goes after Eric, says “You don’t have to do this.” Eric is like “But I want to.” Trenton realizes he’s too far gone and defeats Eric.

Arc II: Sins Unleashed

WIP. This main arc chiefly deals with the aftermath of the Seven Deadly Sins being unleashed, as well as dealings with the Spirit World.
